The world celebrates Human Rights Day annually, on the tenth of December, in commemoration of the day on which the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948, which guarantees basic rights and freedoms without any discrimination, and it has been adopted since that day as the basis for an expanded system aimed at protecting human rights
"Dignity, Freedom and Justice for All" is the theme of this year's celebration. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights affirms in its preamble that "recognition of the inherent dignity, equal and inalienable rights of all members of the family is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world," according to the United Nations website
The site indicated that, in preparation for the celebration of the seventy-fifth anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the association is launching today a year-long campaign aimed at shedding light on the declaration by focusing on its legacy, importance, and the struggle activity that it carries out within its framework
While the High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk expressed, on the same website, about the need to restore human rights at the global level, saying: "We do not accept the fragmentation of human rights, and we need to find new energies to motivate young people all over the world
In this regard, the Center affirmed in a statement issued today that the Strengthening human rights is the way towards safe societies that believe in pluralism and are capable of advancement in all civil, political, economic, social and cultural fields
The statement indicated that this day constitutes an opportunity for a comprehensive review of the human rights system in Jordan to build on national achievements and gains, and at the same time stand on issues and frameworks that still need development, modernization and hard work to reach the goal, Vision and aspirations of the Jordanian state in various fields
The statement pointed out that the theme for this year, set by the United Nations, is a slogan that affirms the fundamental principles of human rights, and represents an invitation to consider the extent to which individuals in all countries of the world enjoy these principles, and the extent to which they are entrenched in the national legal system, in public policies and practices as well
The House of Workers for Studies also reviewed, in a report issued yesterday on this occasion, the conditions and terms of work and workers in Jordan, Based on Jordan's adoption of the National Program for Decent Work in 2006, which considered issues of social justice Decent work and respect for basic rights at work are the basis of legislative reforms and reform of social and economic policies
The report indicated the importance of working to strengthen the capabilities of social safety nets, increase their allocations and direct them to various vulnerable groups of citizens, in addition to the need to work on developing poverty reduction policies
